USS Portland tested its high-energy laser weapon system by shooting laser at a drone and putting it down. This was Navy first of kinds testing of such setup and one step more into the development of such more complex and high power weapons. An unmanned vehicle was made target by laser system. Such tests give ample amount of information to the Navy to develop further such weapon and aiming weaponry which uses laser. As seen in the video, a high power laser was targeted on a drone, which disabled it in less than a second. This high power laser weapon system was tested near Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
As per the navy, new rules of war at sea being written by using such systems. This is completely new technology and they are working towards making it more practicable on all ships. Sci-Fi, isn’t?
