South Korean Yards Gets $19bn Order for building Gas Carriers

It must have been a golden day for the South Korean yards as they signed the agreement of $19bn worth with Qatar Petroleum. Three major yards namely:
Hyundai Heavy Industries-HHI
Samsung Heavy Industries-SHI
Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering  (DSME)
secured this much worth contract for building Gas Carriers for Middle East Gas Major Qatar Petroleum. Approximately plan is to make 100+ vessels over the 7 years and it will comprise more than 60% of world orders related to the Gas Vessels. The construction will not be conventional dome structure type, but like a big continuous membrane as shown above. Such a big order is another boost to the ship making industry in South Korea and we can say a golden day for them. All these ships will be operating on duel fuel system and will be using LNG for propulsion as major source. Qatar Petroleum is planning to increase its natural gas production from current 77m tones to 126m tones per year by 2027. And this big order is just for that increase in output.
