If you are a seafarer or a shipping company in India, you might be familiar with the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), the government agency that regulates and oversees all aspects of maritime affairs in the country. The DGS is responsible for implementing the shipping policy and legislation, ensuring the safety of life and ships at sea, preventing marine pollution, promoting maritime education and training, regulating the employment and welfare of seafarers, developing coastal shipping, augmenting shipping tonnage, examining and certifying merchant navy officers, and supervising and controlling the allied offices under its jurisdiction.
One of the key functions of the DGS is to provide various online services to its stakeholders through its e-governance portal. The portal allows seafarers and shipping companies to access various modules and applications related to ships, seafarers, independent modules, administration, equipment and service stations, portnet, meetings and resolutions, rules and regulation information system, MPSO, MTO renewal, CIP reporting, medical fitness, liferaft service station, etc.
