Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training was established in 1998 by a Merchant Navy Chief Engineer. In India, HIMT is a hub of training of marine. It offers a wide range of courses right from pre-sea training courses for officers and ratings, through senior officer certificates of competency and advanced courses for all ranks of Merchant Navy. HIMT also provides courses dedicated to the offshore oil and gas industry and specialized Value added courses for ongoing professional development of seagoing personnel and shore-based staff.

Courses offered by Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training

B.Sc (Nautical Science) – This program is aimed to train the candidates to face the hardships of life at sea. A total of six semesters are there in this course.
·
Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS course leading to B.Sc Nautical Science)- One year degree program and a pre-sea training course after the B.sc. Nautical Science. It is after the 18 months of sea service.
·
B.Tech (Marine Engineering)– Four year B.Tech course which leads to the Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of competency which is awarded by the ministry of shipping, Government of India.

Trainee Marine Engineers Course for Graduate Engineers (GME)-One year Pre-sea Training course for Graduates (GME). It is a course leading to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of competency.
·
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME)  – It is a two year pre-sea training course for graduates (GME).
·
G.P. Ratings-Duration is 6 months for it. The candidates are eligible to become Deck/Engineer crew and can join the shipping companies.

  6. Marine engineering is useless.no scope.my brother has completed his GME course two years ago and he is still trying.colleges like HIMT just provide pre sea training programme and leave them to their fate after snatching such a huge amounts for the course….its just a bbbbiiig shhhiiit
