US FEDERAL COURT charges Chief Engineer and Owner for Tampering

US federal Court of New Orleans charged chief engineer and owners of the ship MV Joanna (Bulk Carrier) for tamper with Oil discharge monitoring system and oil record book as well. As per the finding of United States Coast Guard, the sensor for the oil content was bypassed by a metal plate. This way sensor was only able to detect clean water, and will not detect the dirty water which is going overboard while pumping out. This is clear violation of MARPOL. Also there were values in oil record book which were falsified. Oil record book is an official and internationally accepted document for recording any kind of operation related to oil on ship. Inspection by USCG carried out on March 11, 2021.
