SUNY Maritime College History

SUNY which stands for State University of New York Maritime College was established in 1874. It is located in historic Fort Schuyler in the Bronx, New York, United States on the Throggs Neck peninsula; it is the place where the East River meets Long Island Sound. The president of the college is RADM Michael A. Alfultis, Ph.D. Motto behind the SUNY Maritime College is loyalty and valor.  It was the first college to be found in The United State which offered commercial nautical instruction and is federally approved. SUNY Maritime College is also one of the only seven maritime academies in U.S. that grant degree.

It also offers degree of Bachelor in Science in business
administration/marine transportation, commerce. The bachelor’s degree course
can also be combined with training for the professional license to become a
United States Merchant Marine Officer. SUNY Maritime College has the United
States Navy or United States Marine Corps Reserve Officers Training Corps
(ROTC) program in which is no where else in the metropolitan New York City
area. This program prepares them to enroll for positions of commissioned
officer in The United States Navy and United States Marine Corps.
