Marine Engineering Practice Questions And Answer-Part4

Here are
some of the questions for oral preparation for your engineer COC examinations.
This article covers the Marine Engineering Practice questions.

These are
the questions that we are covering in this article. Some of the questions have
been taken from social platforms as well.

Marine
Engineering Practice Questions

1)
Freshwater Generator  Starting
Here you can study more about this: Fresh Water Generator
2)
A/E Sump Going Down
Reasons
1.      Scrapper ring damage
2.      Purifier overflow
3.      Gudgeon pin clearance
increase
4.      LO going to rocker arm
leaking in guide shoe
5.      If generator stop then
cooler leaking he said no
There are
two possibilities in this.
1) There
is a leakage in the LO cooler and as the LO pressure is higher than the SW
pressure LO may be wasted and can be confirmed by the SW outlet from the
overboard valve of the Aux eng coolers. There film of LO can be observed
floating in the sea.
2) IF the
Oil scrapper rings are fitted in the opposite direction while assembling piston
or the oil scrapper rings may be damaged or worn out. So LO burning takes
place. As due to faulty oil scrapper rings instead of scrapping to the
crankcase LO is directed towards combustion space. This can be confirmed by the
whitish smoke coming out at the funnel of that exhaust pipe of particular auxiliary engine.
Class 4 Exam
3)
Boiler starting from
cold
4)
Why only 1/4 th level
initially filled up while firing boiler?
Simple ,
While the boiler is cold the same 1/4 water level will be expand by volume and
it will take more space inside the boiler drum while its heated up for forming
steam
5)
Windlass Maintenance
Windlass
Maintenance – Foundation bolts to be checked, Gear oil to be checked, gear oil
to be renewed as per OEM, Brake linings gripping surfaces to be checked and to
be roughened if required.
All the
moving parts to be lubricated .
All the
gears should be inspected.
Electrical-
Motor insulation to be checked at regular interval.
Contactors
and relays of the circuit to be checked.
6)
How to insure all unit of A/E sharing equal load
·
We
will check Exhaust temperature
·
Fuel
rack
·
Take
Peak pressure
·
We
will take peak pressure of all unit and compare it with all and approximately
same. Then all are sharing equal load if someone is more than that unit sharing
more load

area of indicator diagram
divided by length of indicator diagram × spring scale= mean effective pressure.
